I've had a Jones and shipman 540 sat in the corner of my workshop for about 18 months now. Yesterday I finally got it going for the first time.
Hope you enjoy the video and if you have any tips on running one of these machines I would love to hear them as i'm a total beginner.

I have done lots of surface and cylindrical grinding in the past having served my apprenticeship in a toolroom, the patterning is caused by an out of
balanance and incorrectly dressed wheel and you really need to use coolant to preserve the wheel and prevent burning of the surface.
Surface grinders dont like to remove much more than a thou at a time.

Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah i'm only in Shepshed. I run a little Engineering shop out of my garage. Do a few odd jobs for folk, bit of site work.
I'd like to try and get the youtube channel earning a bit as well at some point.

It's ultimatly for getting things REALLY flat and smooth. They are an order of magnitude more precise than a mill. The Z travel increments are
0.0001" or 0.0025mm Very good for tool making or where you have mating faces that have to seal against each other.

Thanks for the advice. I've done a few hours on it today and an starting to get to grips with it I think. I've learnt loads already.. made
a few mistakes along the way. I have the coolant system for it. Hopefully get it hooked up in the next few days.
