MK2 Golf... replacing matrix

Steam coming out of the passenger footwell and a damp carpet has led me to believe the heater matrix has gone in my MK2 Golf.

I believe they're a weak point in the Golf.

I've bought a replacement matrix... just wondering about any tips for replacing them.

Spoke to an ex-mechanic, ex-Golf owning friend of mine who just said it was "an absoloute c$%t of a job" but that was all he said so wondering about any tips to make it less "c$%ty".

Thanks in advance!
James

If it's anything like the Audi matrix of a similar period then the whole dash is built around it...

Ditto - I've watched someone else doing it from afar and the language was interesting

But on the other hand James, you have built a car from scratch, so how difficult can it be?

i stripped a 106 and had the dash out, the heater matrix was in there between the dash and the bulkhead. wouldn't have like to have needed to put it back together!

I did one many years ago - I can't remember it being that bad.

When it was the first sign of the entire cooling system needing replacement - ie radiator and water pump too

Good luck

Mark
