Digital Camcorder

HI ,

After a bit of help from those in the know....

in the market for a digital camcorder for BEC use and family, want to use it with a bullet cam so need in input in the camera for this and a mike.

Q. some cameras only have AV out but have DV in/out, what is DV and can i use it to connect the bullet cam to or do i need AV in ?

Also any recomendations for a camera, looking to spend about £400 ish (a bit more if needed to get the right spec), is ot OK to use Mini DV or is Hard disk the way to go? will the DVD ones be stable enough if used in the car?

So many questions hope someone has some answers.

Cheers

Ash.

u can get alot for £400. You need AV in to use a bullet cam, sony seem to have it on almost all there cams.

i went to upgrade my old digi8 cam corder. its a sony too but abit on the large side compaired to the ones on the market today. i choose a hard disc type, as changing the tape is a hasle when on the road or urgent to follow the convoys. BUT no one seems to make one at the moment with AV in.

If u want to copy your tape to pc easily then a Dv out is really easy to get on with, but note that its native conection to the pc if Firewire not usb. so check this when u buy one.

just go and get a cheap dv £250 job if its only going to b used for the car and odd family recording.

Sony or Canon are both pretty decent makes to look at.

If you're gonna use it on a car then don't go for a hard disk based system. Even the more common DV tape based cameras still have a limit to how much vibration they will take.

Have you considered something like the Neuros 2 for mostly car use combined with a Sony bullet camera.

Have a look on www.fastfilms.co.uk and see what camcorders they use. The Neuros is on there too. I know the owner from the SELOC forum and is very helpuful too.
