youll now see my ramblings arent unfounded , in fact the 2.5 litre engine is a pansy and wont take the same power as a 2.3 volvo lump , open deck block , thin cylinder walls .

its a shame really its taken a ford POS to raise the awareness that is a whiteblock volvo engine , which is weaker than a volvo redblock in its std form

it is infact an audi engine. used in the audi quattro ur and many other audi's in the 1980's and early 1990's.

volvo developed the engine with porsche, who developed the audi engine because porsche are part of VAG. porsche just pretty much copied the audi engine i'm lead to believe.

lamborghini who are part of VAG now have developed a V10 version of the audi 5

Are you sure about this one? The five cylinder engine was a joint venture, but was originally designed as a straight six engine which then had one and then two cylinders removed to form the five and four cylinder variants. The designs of the blocks are completely different, with the Audi having main bearing caps and the Volvo having a complete crank carrier section. The head designs are also completely different as the Quatrro only had one cam, and non crossflow, unless it was a five valve per cylinder DOHC head while the Volvo has either a four valve per cylinder or a two valve per cylinder, both with two cams. Different bore and strokes too. They did both have five cylinders though.

as above ^^^^

thats a misnomer that its an audi engine .

it has a more modern lower crank case - pretty much like how millington updated the ageing pinto/cosworth design !!!

and since this engine has been available from 1992 , and in 2.3 guise is a much better potential for use than the overpriced 2.5 ford thingy . basically £300 would get you that engine out of a T5 .

no what i ment was that the people who made the engine for both companys were porsche and that all they had to do was develop what they had already made for audi to make the volvo engine. sorry i shoulden't have put my little bit of spin on it!!!

audi did have a 20v model of the engine it was mainly fited to the 200 and the coupe

but from what i've heard some of the castings have vag on then, but i'm not sure to believe this

Volvo did use the VW Diesel engines before they had the D5 engine, including the Godawful five cylinder one. Cracked head anyone?
