bec vs cec
build a space frame from party skewers & hot glue (one that hold most weight / number of skewers wins)

Get them to demonstrate the principles of space frame design by giving two groups the same supplies (A3 paper, small bit of card, blue tack, 1 meter
of tape, 5 meters of string and a few canes)...get them to make a bridge to carry tennisballs or soemthing...the team that takes the most wins...
Or, like i was forced to do..given balsa cement and some balsa and told to make a bridge to span a set distance and carry as many building bricks as
possible....

How about a debate about cec versus bec's,
or What's fastest ? (that could be good!)
weight as opposed to power
13" wheels against 15/17"
you could fill a whole day let alone 20 mins
If it doesn't fit MODIFY it!!

the audience are adults but they have limited if any motoring knowledge, anything specifically locost,eg steel/ali floors 13" wheels vs bigger
will be lost on them i think
i think i might try something along the lines of skewers and blue tak, and build a space frame form a plan im going to give them
and then discuss it weak points and suggest improvements i.e. triangulation
what do you think, i only have 20 mins and ive got a powerpoint and a couple of hill climb clips to show

Ask them to design a lower wishbone from scratch and see if any of them are worse than the book one

Good grief! take them some wire brushes white spirit rags and donor parts and get them to identify what they unearth, you can give them some clues by
sketching the mechanical function of the parts on the blackboard/ whiteboard! Much more fun and you will save getting your hands too dirty!
