tin top advice please

help and advice needed please. I have a 2002 on vaux vectra 1.8 petrol and had the timing belt and rollers changed back in mid jan. since then there has been a light rumble sound from the pulley end of the block low down when cold. i was thinking water pump poss and was meaning to get it back to the garage. Been out today on a normal journey 9 mile town speeds and the yellow cooling light has come on on the dash and is staying on after been parked now for 5 hours. coolant level is normal and at the same level when checked last weekend. the temp gauge stays on no reading for maybe 10 mins then climbs in approx 2-3 minutes to around 90-95 degrees then falls back to no reading when normally it is rock steady at 80 degrees. the rumble has changed to an intermittent rattle. I have checked all the pulleys etc that i can get to and they seem tight. any suggestions before it goes " in ".





been a bit of a rush job really, bodged it all together in just 5 1/2 years.

sounds like the water pump if taking it to a garage i would tow as you dont want the pump to collapse whilst the engine is running£££££££££££

They may have over tensioned the belt when it was replaced or the old belt was slack so you would not hear the bearings as a matter of course giving that the timing belt operates the water pump it is wise to replace both a the same time works out cheaper in the long run

Did you also replace the belt tensioner ? --- this is a must do on Vauxhalls.

The only way to know what caused the engine check light to come on is to get the diagnostic codes read

thanks for all so far, just to clarify,it is the symbol of a radiator that has come on not the engine light. would this still come up on a fault code reader.

also did have the tensioner changed with the belt back in Jan.

any ideas on how i can check the waterpump with out getting it in to a £garage£ or without removing belts etc again???
