Cheap intercom

I'm just starting to look into getting an intercom system for the kit car.

I want to find a decent set but nothing overly expensive (£100 or less). From what i have been reading this is one of those products that it is 'you get what you pay for'.

I've seen that alot of them have ear pieces and microphones for helmets but i require one that can be used without a helmet.

Does any one have any experience of intercoms and what should i be looking for?

Maplin do a bike intercom for £20 - Look for a cheap throat mike online (Shenstone Comms IIRC???) and some D-piece earphones - 30 mins of soldering and bingo...

Shenfield ==> Linky

I must read posts fully before replying!!

The below is a recomendation for a Helmet, i think eventually you will end up with a helmet anyway so may be advisable to get some helmets and a intercom like below, without helmets on i dont think you will be able to hear anything on an intercom above 40mph apart from the wind in your ear and believe me you wont be concentrating on driving.

Can definatly recommend the OMP Interclassic Intercom, powered by 2 x 9V Batteries, easy to fit and quality product.

They also do an adaptor for wiring in to 12v ignition supply, although i would stay with the batteries as there isnt any interference from the engine.

Found mine cheapest on the OMP Importers Website:-

Which one have you got Mike, JA801N or JA816. What's it like to fit in the helmet?

Thanks for the replys.

I am going to go ahead with the omp set (JA/800)

plus the microphone booms as well. (JA/822)

Best price seems to be in demon tweeks so far

at £63 for radio set

and £16 for two microphone ext booms

Thanks again
