funny legal question about garages

right I'm hoping one of you guy's might be able to help me out with this problem

I took the missus car to a garage this morning to get the alternator changed for a recon unit we had already got. Would have done it myself but the guy said it would only cost £30, so I thought why not. Left the car with him and when the missus went to pick it up this afternoon he said that "he didn't have the time to do it so he sent it to another garage (without asking either myself or the missus!) as a favour". Ok

So the missus goes to the other garage to get the car and is told that they didn't change the alternator as the new one was the wrong type and (get this) the cost of finding this out was £88. She paid the amount (with a small moan) as she thought that they wouldn't give her the car back.

Where do I stand on getting my money back? As the original garage never contacted us to ask whether to get the work done by someone else, is he liable?

cheers
Chris

100% a pi55 take that, i'd ring up garage 1 and play f***. Complete joke. Failing that, its trading standards, then the old molitov cocktail.

Damned arsewipes.

Seriously, id expect a beating if i did that to someone. Snide.

having been down to garage 1 to cause some chaos his reply was "but I thought I was doing you a favour" then he tried the "well it was 38 plus vat then the other little jobs (which were never done) so I thought the whole amount would come out at £60" very nearly gave him that cocktail of the non drinkable variety.

Gave the Citizens Advice blokes a ring. Very helpful, said that the 1st garage was liable for any extra cost's and I should send him a letter stating I wanted the difference paid back or court time.

Will keep you posted on the outcome!!!!

Your contract was with the first garage and the price was agreed. Any difference is owed to you by the first garage.

Small claims court will sort this one out very quickly

cheers fella's, the hint of using the small claim's court has spured them into action with a complete refund by the first garage, along with appology and the offer of fitting the new alternator for free.

Amayzing what happens when the word "sue your ass" is used!

nice one! damn satisfying when things work out!
people just have a go at getting easy money dont they? my missus store card company tried that, charging for a card protection plan and then ignoring letters to cancel it, ended up £30 in fines and charges. told them to stuff it and filed a complaint for not providing an address to complain to.

they just hope you wont bother moaning about it.
