Fiat Punto Starting problem

Im throwing this one up to all you lot on here...someone must know.

A girl at work has a problem starting her automatic petrol punto.

The engine spins over fine but wont start.
had a new battery fitted, new plugs.
still the same.

however, if you put jump leads on from another car it starts....sometimes..lol.
i connected battery to battery, wouldnt start.
so i connected her engine block to other car negative, wouldnt start.

put the negative back to the battery,,,wehay,,starts straight away.

she says it will only start if being jumped from another car.

she has had it in at the garage, and they cant find anything wrong with it. infact they said their diagnostics machine wouldnt connect/communicate with it (not main dealers)

antone know of any probs with these cars or has an idea of what it could be.

dodgy earth?
fuel pump?
faulty sensor?

i suppose i could go on...lol.

heater matrix can leak water into the ECU on some punto models, immobiliser probs area common too,

not sure why it would start with the jumpleads though?, maybe just coincidence

i had an intermintent start problem on a bravo. main dealer diagnosed faulty ecu, sent ecu off to be checked, all came back fine. still wouldnt start at all. then after alot of head scratching and wire pulling it started intermintently. managed to find the problem faulty cam sensor!!! could be a immobilser prob as stated, they are welll known for it, and ecu's too.
