Accruing ncb after claim with protected ncb policy?

Got a 5yr protected ncb and had an accident last year. When do I start re-accruing ncb?

Is it from the next claim free year so I'll get 6 next year etc or do I start again from 0 and have to build it up ie 6 years before i can have 6 years ncb or do i go back one year for each claim?

Nothing immediate that i need to know for, just curious really how it works.

cheers,

Ned.

you don't lose your ncb, so you have 6 next year - you just have to tell them that you had an accident and that affects your premium instead...for the next 5 years!

I thought "protection" was relative. IE you lose less of your NCB but you still loose some. Or at least that's what the small print on my "protected" NCB premium says....

It will depend upon the wording of your policy. Some allow one claim a year with no affect, other will see you lose a year's NCB for each claim, or so on.

in your case it's unlikely to make a difference anyways as 99% of insurers use 5 years as their maximum so even if you have 30 years claim free they will still only count it as 5.

The insurance company that i work for 5 years ncd is max and if you have your ncd protected you will not loose your discount and will still be on maximum at your next renewal

In my experience your NCD remains the same, but they do load your premium due to the claim, so you get the same percentage discount, but against a higher premium.
