Summer Evening Drive
Had a nice drive out tonight. The Zetec is going well, and didn't break down like it did last Saturday!
I thought is was a bit less powerful than last time I drove it and realised the bolt holding my new throttle return spring was only allowing the carbs
to open about 75%.
I still have an unusual tapping noise from the top end though - If I start the car from cold without the choke it ticks over very quietly for about 15
seconds and then a distinct tapping noise starts that sounds like a knackered cam. This comes and goes as it warms up and then disappears completely
whan warm.
Otherwise the car runs great. The 1.6mm jets in ZX6R carbs seem good, but looking at the plugs, possibly a little bit rich.
The engine pulls well throughout the rev range though. I have a spare set of jets so may try going down to 1.5mm, and see if that makes any
difference.
Just need to get some miles under its wheels now and get a track day booked.

Next time you're off on a blat let me know  I'll often end up charging past to go to Mill Hill / A1 area for some wiggly roads....
