Don't think gaffer tape wil fix this one
Apparently it "just went bang and stopped"
The propshaft ..............
And the cause......................................
Common problem apparently.

What happened? Diff fragmented and killed the prop?? Don't recognise the second photo bits (too scared to look inside a diff- don't
understand how it works!!!)

I recon that towel is going to need washing at more than 30 degrees to get those stains out.
What were you thinking?!!!
Use a dark colour at least.

Tube of UHU and the gaffer may suffice.
Looks as though the prop went at the weld first.

Yep that would be the correct scenario. The funny bit is that if the diff locks, its always the the front u/j that goes, not the rear one. Similar
thing happens if you put the hand brake on in a Land Rover if you are doing more than 30mph. That breaks the front u/j as well.
Oh and the bits are out of the diff in pic 2

My assessment was same as Ben and Jolly's. The planet gears burst locking up the diff.
Weird the way it's always the front of the prop though. Probably someone
will have the answer.
And as for the towel, I'll hide it at the bottom of the basket for SWMBO
to sort out

A pinto should never have been able to do that!! It looks as though the spotweld that holds the balance weight on was to blame. It's caused a
stress concentrate. IMHO...

is it just me or does that tube seem too thin walled for a propshaft?
Cheers

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the
error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

don't think gaffer tape will fix this one
Cause and effect, spider gears let go, jammed the diff, driveshaft took the hit. Had something similar years ago, mothers Ford dropped the front
universal, the prop shaft jammed in a pothole, lifted the whole back of the car off the ground and tore out the rear springs and diff, lost my
allowance for months.

Yikes Gavin, thought mine was good, yours is well twisty
Tunnel is fine as it apparently happened reversing out of a drive (customers car BTW)
On close inspection it seems the balance weight spot weld was indeed the failure point here too.
A lot to be said for two hose clips
