Another Ebay W***er
Sold the F1-2 for a second time on ebay.
1st buyer got out of paying by saying unauthorised use of his account.
2nd buyer sent me a reduced offer which I accepted and he won.
Here is a copy of what he emailed me:
Dear nitram38,
First Name: Andrew
Last Name: Armstrong
Country: United Kingdom
---------------------------------------------------------
Martin,
Unfortunately I will not be able to continue with
this transaction as I have just been informed
that I will not be able to register this car in
the country I was going to export it to due to
their different safety laws.
I feel absolutely awful about this, please send
me a paypal invoice for your listing fees and I
will reimburse you at once, I have had the same
happen to be on ebay and know it is terribly
annoying.
Apologies for the inconvenience caused,
Andrew
Here is my reply:
Dear ponty_andy,
I'm sorry too. You are the second w***er to win and not pay.
You re-selling the car is not my problem.
You will have to accept an unpaid strike against you. I will get my fees back via ebay thanks.
- nitram38
My message was *** so that I don't get done. If ebay asks, it means Winner!

You may feel a bit guilty sending that reply after you've calmed down.... He seems genuinely upset that he can't complete the auction.

I agree he should have done his homework before he started to bid, simple as that. He spending a serious amount of money he should be serious about
what he is doing, after all when you but on e bay, unless you are a lucky buyer you usually have to bid several times to win something so he will ave
had time to check stuff out. I know its a pain and there is not a lot else you can do but go through it all again and maybe put the caveat do all
your checks in your own country re the registration before you bid!!

I really wouldn't sell anything you care about on EGay. Far too many time wasters and things happen like this all the time so it's sadly
not a surprise.
I do think your reply is a little harsh but I can understand your annoyance. H's given a polite reply and that means a lot to me. I'd
rather that than being shunned and ignored. This happened to me on this forum with a car I tried to sell. That annoyed me so much more than had he had
the manners to explain himself.
It will eventually sell but I'd be tempted to put it on Piston Heads and just lower the price until it tempts the new owner.

Seems a bit on the harsh side, he has offered to pay listing fees etc. so you won't be out of pocket.

It is not just the listing fees, it is the final sale fees and the hassle.
The whole idea of an auction is you bid you buy.
It is not as if the value was £5.
Also it makes other future prospective buyers think that there is something wrong with my car

I found, when I had this happen to me twice in a row, that I couldn't get a free re-list for after the second w***er failed to pay up.
What really annoys is the time waste, and the disappointment. It's almost impossible (with me anyway) to stop myself planning what I am going to
spend the money on (which is of course the reason for selling in the first place).
I think people who bid, win and then don't pay should be flogged, in public, with injections of stimulants to stop them from fainting when the
pain gets too bad.
Then, when they are cut down they should be given a few days to recover and then the punishment should be repeated. Much more effective than an
'unpaid item strike'.

I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator
headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names
furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours.

I think auction rules should apply.
If you place the winning bid, you've bought it!
Cry to someone who gives a shit.
It should be up to him to sell it on, if he doesn't want it, not cry out of paying.
You can't pull that stunt at a car auction.

I have been so busy working that I don't get much time to either drive or promote the car. People want everything for nothing. I have had offers
of £500 and £2500. What jokers!
This ebayer offered me close to what I wanted so I accepted, even though it was lower than what the car was advertised for.
An unpaid strike only has any effect if they get 2. This enables sellers to block bids in future.
I would like to see the fees paid and a fine of £50 levied, so that they realise that they can't do this sort of thing.

n38 - did the bidder actually view the car?
what I think happens is that people bid, not expecting to win andwhen they win, they back out because of the online autcion mentalilty:
if you were outbid, then it means that the someone else thought the item was worth more than you, otherwsie noone else thought the item was worth as
much as you bid.
although that is no excuse for bidding and backing out. bid to win and pay up is the way it shouuld be run; even though ebay state a bid is
legally binding, I doubt that is engorced otherwise the courts would be overhwlemed by this sort of thing.
anyways, back to selling - I guess you have advertiese in the kit car mags as well as pistonheads?

He didn't bid, he sent me an offer via the ebay process.
If I accept then it is sold, ebay ends the auction. I lost £17.99 in the space of 2 hours from listing and now ebay will not refund it.
I now have to wait 7 days to file a dispute and another 7 if he does not reply before I can sell the car because in those 14 days he could change his
mind and leave me negative for not supplying the car!
I emailed ebay and unbelievebly they keep banging on about no refunds. All I did was send them a copy of the buyers email and ask for the auction
dispute to be closed so that I can get on and sell it again.

You can both 'agree' not to complete the transaction using the appropriate form... neither gets a strike and you instantly get your money
back!

No money back on a classified Ad.
You pay for a 28 day listing without any final sale fees. Seemed a bargain as some cars have cost me £60-70 to sell in the past. I didn't know
about the relist costing again, even if some idiot didn't pay.
Ebay just wrote again and said this: "We don't guarantee that you'll sell your item, just as a newspaper wouldn't guarantee
you'd sell your item if you placed a classified advert. Therefore, if your item doesn't sell for any reason, you still have to pay the
listing fee."
I wrote back and told them that if I had paid a newspaper for a 28 day advert, then I would get 28 days in that newspaper even if the car sold
(unless it was my choice to inform them to remove it).
Ebay earned £18 for two hours of a 28 day listing and I need to spend another £18 for another listing.
I also told them that it is the seller that loses their money and the 28 days advertising while the buyer gets off scott free.

Something else that amuses me about some Ebay users-
I list something with a description and a mobile number, and I'll get a message through ebay asking for a price to end it early, he'll
come tomorrow and pick it up and will pay cash. And how do I get this message? Through Ebay's own message system!!
Why don't the silly tw@ts send a text message or ring? Do they really think ebay wouldn't look at the messages if someone ended an auction
early?

Maybe, but I would prefer a strike against him, plus I am arguing with ebay that I paid for 28 days listing and that is what I want.
