Our oldest will be 10 in December and his kid bro was 8 at the end of last month, and I wouldn't swap either of them for anything.
If they start misbehaving, they'll find out how unpleasant a 44 year old can be - I've had a hell of a lot more practice at sulking than
they have

I have 3 boys, 18yrs, 9yrs and 7 months so I get multi-age hassle.
I get the screaming kicking spoon feeding, with the 9yr old who never shuts up in my ears and the 18yr old eating everything that doesn't move
while whinging about something or other.
The 18yr old has been more trouble over the last few years than the other two combined. I'm just waiting for my angel of a 9yr old hit the teens
;(
I love it

Love is like a snowmobile, speeding across the frozen tundra.
Which suddenly flips, pinning you underneath.
At night the ice-weasels come...

for Canada, has been around the world. He can still be a pain, but now he knows why.
