I'm no expert on martial arts but as I understand it they fall into two catagories, internal and external martial arts. Aikido and Tai Chi are examples of internal arts and follow the principles above. In addition to this some of the internal arts use techniques designed to disrupt the internal energy flow of the opponent (Qi \ Chi). If you want to know more search for "Dim Muk". Whether or not you belive in "Qi" etc depends on your knowledge and beliefs. I do believe that "Qi" exists but I have first hand experience of its existance and its use in combat (this is not really the place to start this debate) . Karate, Tae Kwon Do are examples of external arts and put the emphasis on fast powerful attacking movements. I am not in a position to say any particular art is any better \ more effective than another, but like I said there are lots of martial arts to choose from, you just need to find one that suits you.

Anyone else?

Wife and kid do Wado Ryu four times a week black belt in November and Blue for the sprog. Gives me lotsa time for locost matters. Visit Macspeedy when she gets lifts to comps in Edinburgh.....better than sitting all day in crappy sports centers on seats harder than concrete watching people in pajamas kicking each other or worse kata dancing (if I dont post for a while its cause shes broken both my limbs for saying that). lol

I got my black belt in Ju-jitsu when i was 12, and am currently learning Wing Chun Kung Fu. Its the most vicous type of martial art (developed by a woman :-)), and probably most effective. Did some Akido as well, but preferred the kung fu

I'm a karate man...

did shotokan for a couple of years when i was young.

then shukokai karate at Edinburgh Uni, fought in the Scottish Uni Championships, and have the scars to prove it

then wado-Ryu karate in edinburgh too.

attended a fair few seminars held by ao-denkou jitsu which is an umberlla organisation incorporating many martial arts, and by far the coolest thing is pressure point fighting, kyosho jitsu (i think) as the pain you can cause with very little effort is cooool

This is not just a method of fighting it is a way of life, with such sayings as:-

"If you meet a kick boxer, shoot him with your 12 bore before he gets in range"

Go carefully Grasshopper

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

Well the World Championship Savate tournament is over.

I'm sure you'll all b pleased to know that my girlfriend came 3rd in her weight category and I came 4th!

Fly home tomorrow to nurse the bruises!

I may even put some pictures up if you're really lucky!

Cheers,
