I remember getting called out to fix a problem with a server that had been delivered to the customer site.

It was delivered 3 weeks prior to the call and had been reported working perfectly. We then got a heap of calls when the old server was decommissioned and the apps stopped working.

A visit to site found the problem, the new server was in the server room still in the delivery packing!!

My favorite story, I sold a computer to one lady, didn't seem to be the brightest. picked it up and about 2 hours later I get a call from her screaming that I was trying to rip her off selling defective products.
so I went through the checklist.
OK is it plugged in ?
yes
what is it plugged into?
the power bar.
Is the power bar plugged in?
ARE YOU CALLING ME STUPID? OF COURSE ITS PLUGGED IN.

After going through everythin I could think of, I decided to drive to her house and check it out. The power bar was plugged back into its self. But you see it was my fault, because I didn't specify where it should be plugged in.

we used to call them 12 oclock flashers. you just new every digital clock in their house was flashing 12:00

I'm glad I work at an engineering office now, people here seem to be smart enough to know when they don't know.

Once had a customer who was having real problems. The computer worked in the office yesterday but didn't today. Just wouldn't work. Started with the obvious, whats on the screen - it was dead.

Is the PC on? She thought so... kept going round in circles, she insisted nothing had been moved / changed. Computer was turned plugged in and turned on....

eventually i had her grab the power cord from the back of the PC and slowly trace it to the wall ......... oh dear, its not plugged in, oh i am sorry blah blah blah

What can you say when the customer spends around 4 million a year with you. "Its ok, its not a problem, you're not the first, don't worry about it". Put the phone down and then say what you reall think.
