Wiper mechanism joint

A friend at work has a VW Sharan, and is having trouble with his wipers. The part that is faulty is one of the joints on the mecanism. It has a ball on the end of a threaded rod that fits into a plastic cup.
He is trying to buy a new one, without success anyone know where these can be purchased? or someone that sells these sorts of joints that we might fit to replace the original

The arm isn't available, just the full wiper rack for mega bucks.

I fixed a mates by...cutting a strip of spring steel, drilling two holes in one end (along the centre line) and matching holes in the arm, put a pop rivet thrugh one pair of holes, fit the arm (with the strip at an angle to the arm), rotate the steel strip over the back of the ball (it might need a bit of a dog leg in it) so it holds the ball in the socket, put the second rivet in to hold it steight. Plenty of grease and it held for 18 months untill he sold it.
