Just been given an automatic astra
Well not just yet but when my parents get their new car. Its a rather boring 1.6 auto estate in dark blue. Thing is, im using it to get to college at
the moment but im also doing my ARDS in the new year and was going to get another car to do this in.
I have 3 options. Option 1, sell the astra and use the money to buy another fairly modern (parents rule) manual car to get to college and do the
ARDS/tracksdays in.
Option 2, Keep the astra as it is and do my ARDS in a standard automatic.
Option 3, Keep the astra but modify it to make it more interesting/fun.
I prefer option 3 but, i would really prefer it as a manual.
How hard is it to convert to manual or drop a better engine with manual box in? I dont have much spare time but we are looking for a project at
college. The problem with this is that all the time it is being modified, i cant use it to get to college so will have to use the Jag.
Any other idea's very welcome

As new as possible. Problem is the car is only worth about £1000 if that.

If you keep it and leave it totally bog stock, your parents will subconsciously respect you for that. They'll never tell you to your face, but
they will.
If you flog it or modify it in any way, again they probably won't say anything, but secretly they'll be saying "you ungratefull
little Sh**".
Say thank you and chill out - automatics are much under rated.

They were the ones who said i could modify it.
Has anyone done a trackday or ARDS licence with an automatic?
Iv just thought of a 4th option.
Keep the car and buy an MOT failure on the bay and trailer that to the track.

I'm with zil on this.
Try it for a while - you might even get on ok with the auto

I get on alright with it. I use it at the mo to get to college. I just find it boring and slow.

Yes option 4 is much better.
That means two cars and a trailer to park on the drive and the locost in the garage.
You must have cool parents to put up with that

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

what have you had before that they won't let you have an older car ?
so far I've just had the odd moan about all those 'piles of scrap' I've left around the place (2 granadas, 1 sierra, 1
scimitar at the moment )
and I don't even live there anymore lol
I would have thought you could get a decent car for £1000 at the moment
30sec look on autotrader turned up this and loads of others:
