What’s the general jist of it??

Just seeing another celeb on tv laying the give to charity line makes me cross.
The people that are supposed to get help dont see a penny.
The fat officials tend to have first dabs on the kitty

Have to say that whilst it hurts to see any form of suffering, I think we still have a lot of work to do in our own country before throwing money at
other countries!

I've often wondered whether sending aid to countries with populations which are too large to be supported by their agriculture and climate is a
good thing.
Isn't it just moving the problem into the future? It's supposed to be about saving lives. Presumably the idea is that we save the lives
now, then by the time the next generation arrives (which will be exponentially larger that if the current lives had not been saved) we will have
thought up some clever idea to support the now much larger population.
The sort of intiative that I would be much happier with is one that sought to reduce the unsupportable increase in population.
Population control is not much talked about, it's called the Hardinian Taboo, everybody has to keep quiet about the fact that the Earth is
drowning under unsustainable population growth (all over the world, not just in Africa)

I support Water Aid. Their work digs wells or builds water pipe lines to villages where the nearest source of clean water is more than a couple of
hours walk away. They train local people to maintain and repair the equipment so that the village becomes self supporting.
Once people have clean water, their health improves. People aren't ill as often or for as long. They don't die as children. The result
is that they can work the land and provide for themselves. Often, this frees the children from work to whatever schooling is available to them.
This kind of aid works. Rounding people up into a camp and feeding them with rice from the back of a lorry is the type of aid that merely prolongs
the problem.

when ever ive seen pics from africa there seems to be plenty people with AK47,s and other assorted military hardware including tanks and heavy
artillery, that stuff dosnt come cheap,as for digging the wells, remember the blue peter one?pump was stolen/broken within a year and they were back to
square one waiting for someone else to sort it out, why not give them a shovel and show them how to use it.
and Zimbabwe, was an exporter of food under the evil white honkey ,give the land back to the locals and now they can sit on their ars*s holding out
their begging bowls.
who cares who wins

It always makes people feel better to give to the third world, rather than go downtown in any large western city and see the suffering. Those people
have stories too, and not all deserve to be there. But no, that's just too complicated. Easier to put a cheque in the mail or book a flight to
Uganda and have your picture taken with nice little kids who are so happy to see you.
