Attempted Fruad - warning on car insurance
Hi all,
just a bit of a warning.
I got my insurance renewal through, for the tintop. Nissan Micra ( for those in the know i work for nissan, and this becomes relevant)
I checked it over and i said i'd made a claim..... hmmm I thought sure i haven't lets check what this is, go online and it shows i had a
new windscreen fitted??!
WTF i thought, I haven't, and apparently i had it done by autoglass.
So being confused i went out the motor to double check, i do forget things.
Nope sure enough it's the same window as original nissan glass and the sealant has never been touched.
So i ring up and speak them, and they say nope you admitted fault to the glass people and paid £65 so you'll lose this years NCB.
No I dam well won't i say the glass has never been touched.
But sir how can you be sure.
because i work for Nissan and I'd have done it myself and not lost the bonus.
err errr I'll have to pass you to my supervisor.
so he says he'll look into it
two days later they send me an email and admit that it was" an error"
hmmmm fraud attempt i say,
so best be careful everybody.
best regards

clerical error i'd say. a marker applied to the wrong account or something.
if it had been a fraudulent claim made by someone with a micra to get a free windscreen, i don't think the insurance would have given in so
easily

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

You shouldn't lose NCB on a windscreen claim anyway??? Just the excess to pay.

i am product manager for MORE TH>N and would sugegst you firstly read your NCB entitlement rules forst to see if a glass claim effects your NCB
come renewal.
I would then get onto autoglass and ask where and when the window was fitted, ask for a receipt of the transaction (which should have your reg and
details) and then pass that onto the insurer.
Or, calls their counter fraud unit and pipe up!

already did all that, the insurer has said the glass company has no record of the fittment, so as such they will delete the claim from my policy, and
investigate further

Most insurers have an agreement with the big windscreen companies that a customer just needs to take in their certificate and then the windscreen co.
will do the job, claim the excess and send the remainder of the bill to the insurer. The claim does not usually have to be formally notified to the
insurer before proceeding. The insurer then manually inputs them onto the system. I would imagine that someone has just input the policy number of a
genuine claim incorrectly.
It would be a pretty amateur and barely productive way of them commiting fraud, but right to be wary and always check at renewal as these things do
happen.
