Its never easy, colour of polo power steering fluid

As per earlier thread thanks to you all for helping me with the whale noise polo.

I brought some power steering fluid for it today. I went to the VW dealer where upon asking if the fluid is green i said i don't know the number is G002 000, I get given G004 000 which i assume is the latest varient as the owners hand book is 10 years old.

However upon opening the reservoir the fluid thats still at the bottom is red........... bugger.

So is it suppsed to red or green? have i got the correct fluid? is it likely that the fluid is generic inside and is that going to cause a problem and can i add this G004000 to it?

The VW parts guy seemed to delight in telling me how much the parts would cost to replace £1100! just as well i would rebuild the bits with new seals and scrap parts anyway.

hope someone can help

Cheers

Red is ATF --- buy Dextron 2D eqivalent

Don't every mix the green mineral fluid used by later VW & Audi is very special even using LHM can ruin the system.

Don't quote me on this...

But if memory serves G00200 was a mineral based fluid much like the LHM used in some of the citreons hydrolic systems.

DO NOT USE ATF as I'm sure this blows the seals.

Oh and G00200 was green. It's now called Pentosin 7.1

Who the f**K tightened this up!

Dont put the green in there as said. Thats completley different stuff.

Just go to halfwits and some atf. Thats what the red stuff is. Probably cheaper than vw aswell.
