Even More Central Heating Advice - Please

My worcester bosch junior 28i is running a lot at the mo because the loft is at or below 5 degrees , therefore I have no control over when my radiators are hot apart from trv's is that correct?

yes thats sounds plauseable if the sensor involved is in ambient temp, some boilers have the sensor in heating circuit for frost protection

i would say you have a ambiant air frost stat fitted, this is the cheepest and easiest way to provide frost protection to the boiler when installed in a unheater area, a friend of mine had his in a garage with same problem waking the house up when heating started clunking in the middle of the cold nights. think his was a room sealed appliance and build a basic studwork partition around it to isolate from the rest of the cold garage, other ways might be imersion frost stat, good insulation and possible trace heating or something.

If its a free air stat in the boiler casing it'll probably be a little bead thermistor on a P.C.B inside the boiler.

If your feeling brave you could cut it off and soldier a longer lead on it and move it closer to some hot pipes inside the boiler.

The best soloution would probably be as suggested to build an insulated (easily removed) cupboard around it to help it keep some of its own heat within. There should be some measurements in the instructions about how much gap you must leave around each side of the boiler.
Either build something simple or have a look at the damaged odds n sods bad at Ikea or the like.

Another thing to check, Is it definately only 5 deg or below up there?

You can get faults with the Hot water side of the controls that would cause it to fire up on its own and to ignore the settings on the timeclock for the heating etc.

If it thinks sombody is running the tap (because it has a fault) it fires up the boiler, but as there is no mains cold water running through it (cos the tap isin't really open) this heat gets dumped into the radiator circuit, making it appear the heating is on when it shouldn't be.

I've seen that happen this week and just put 2 and 2 together, this could be the fault.
