scales
concerns wieghing yourself on a set of scales.
they say that the scales should be place on a hard sruface - someone at work is saying that the weight dispalyed is more when placed on a carpet.
why should that be?

Presumably if its placed on a soft carpet the scales could tilt slightly make the weight off-centre therefore reducing the pressure onto the sensor
and therefore the reading......

if i put my scales on carpet i weigh 17 stone. on hard floor its 10.5.
its because the scale chassis is rather flexible and it distorts the mechanism when on uneven height surface.

We've got a digital Salter scales, about ten years old, very very accurate, doesn't make any difference whether it's on carpet or a
hard surface

I have an exact spot wher I put the scales (Not that I'm obsessive, you understand).
Moving them to other positions affects the results and the floor has to be dead flat too for the results to be repeatable.
I'm making this sound like setting up a racing car.
Anyway - the floor does make a difference.

What are these"scales" of which you speak?
Chris
Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the
error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

When I get on the scales they say one at a time please.
Every set must be faulty as on mechanical scales I only weigh 4 stone and on electronic it goes blank
