Chuffin News..........

Moan Moan Moan...........

Ok we had a bit of snow, biggest fall in 18 years as it happens........

Now we are crap because we weren't prepared, who's going to pay for snow ploughs to sit idle for 18 years.

Get over it, it will be gone tomorrow.

It's a bit over-sensationalised this year!

For instance the top headline was the snow, where in the same day a bloke walked into a police station in Kabul and blew himself up, taking 21 policemen with him and countless others injured.

But at least we got to see some ootage of some snow though...

Working from home today and we have the Mother In Law staying.

She is an avid daytime TV addict - which I can hear in the background...

The news has been shafting on all day about the weather. Enough grit, not enough grit, ordering more grit, £17k per bl00dy grit lorry run, why not use ploughs, should schools be open, should they announce closures the day before or on the day, why do schools close - they didn't when I was a kid, kids being injured sledging - should have been at school, buses not running, trains not running, wrong type of snow, were we prepared, what should we do different, people slipping over, should there have been more grit, the aged struggling with snow and ice, we really should cater better for there needs blah, blah, blah

Bit sick of it now! Think I will make her sit through Saw V as penance...

It will be all over in a couple of days - and they will find something else to shaft on about.

Rant over.... for now.

It has cost me a bundle! I was in Kuwait specifically for a meeting involving two people who were supposed to come out from London on Sunday night. One flying from Glasgow just made the plane the other was delayed by snow and 10 minuites late at the gate so was denied boarding. The plane was sat at the gate for 2 hours and it took another 3 hours on the ground waiting for de-icing then waiting for a slot on the single runway so long it had to go back for de-icing. It seems heathrow only have one mobile de-icing rig that goes from gate to gate.

Anyway one guy arrived 5 hours late the other was stuck in London so meeting did not happen. I have to get to another meeting in Kuwait and will lose costs of my flight and hotel plus another precious car fettelleing weekend!

Proper airports like Amsterdam have 4 fixed de-icing rigs at the end of the taxiway so planes go there get de-iced and sent straight out on the runway so no having to get de-iced several times with whatever costs in chemicals and pollution as well as needless delays.

Even in mild winters the odd day is cold enough to completely screw the UK transport network. There are not enough snow ploughs, gritters and people trained to operate them period, it is not as if it was rocket science or multimillion pound equipment we re talking about here!

Good time to practice drifting, how do you think the Fins got so good. We drive sideways all winter teaches car control, except for the SUV crowd, they usually throw it into the first ditch.

it was daft coverage indeed. In leeds the council did a cracking job IMHO, grit everywhere, snowplow had been down nearly every road i could find, including small residential roads. Roads were dry as a bone.
