DYSON Problem
hi guys,
the dyson has just stopped! literally just shut down on me. im trying to take it apart at the moment but i can't get into it? i can't find
any screws or clips, how you you get into these things? its the small unit dyson not the stand up push hoover.
any ideas?

Might have a thermal cut out on the motor. Let it cool down first before pulling it apart.
Now is a good time to take the tubes and pipes off and make sure it is all cleaned out. Dont forget the hepa filters and washing out the vortex head
(or whatever it is called). Of course has to be all bone dry before using again.

in my experience the wires in the mains lead tend to snap. I have replaced a few of these and it solved the problem. Also check that the on/off switch
works properly. Also clean filters as stated.
Check there are no blockages.

yeah that hepa filter needs regular washes but on mine it has a bypas air valve to protect the motor, you can hear it hiss when the filter is blocked.
I do wonder just what you have been doing with it to make it overheat though, not been misusing it have you...

all fixed, i think it was just overheating big thick ball of hair in the inlet!  god dam sisters!

I really can't belive quite how unreliably shite Dysons are... and people still keep buying them.
Bought a Henry a year ago for my house that I was doing up. It survived all the building work clearing and now does a fantastic job around the
house.
1200 watts, a 30m lead, 2 speeds, holds 5kg+ of junk.
A friend of mine services vacuum cleaners for a living. Says he's now selling parts to people who bought a Henry 20 years ago.
He has to fix Dysons sometimes after a year and parts are already hard to get for some models!

My BIL has one and it packed up. He phoned them for a service price and they said they would fix it and replace whatever it needed for £38 all in.
Personally I am of the same opinion as James. We have had 3 vacuum cleaners in the last 10 years and still haven't spent the cost of a Dyson.

i have to dis-agree im afraid, our dyson has never packed up before, the handle bit snapped once and dyson replaced it without question. i think the
only reason why it turned off this time was the fact that my sister hadn't cleaned out the barrel bit and it got clogged up!

I have a dyson as a dedicated garage hoover  (mum's old one) ^_^ I don't know about more recent Dysons but the ealier ones were so
badly made, heavy, clunky, hard to move around. As our lecturer said when I was at uni "great engineering, shite product design"

We had one of the original upright Dysons (DC-01?) that has had all sorts of abuse over the last ~10 years (including sucking up stuff from the
workshop floor) and has only ever required a couple of new belts and HEPA filters. Sadly the motor burnt out a few weeks ago, but I certainly
can't complain about the service it's given.

Took some rubbish down to our local recycling center a few weeks ago and noticed they had a load of vacuum cleaners in the electrical appliance bay ,
probably about 30 . A good 2 dozen were Dysons!

i went to the tip to get rid of some junk, i saw a dyson ( thinks dco4 ) in the skip, asked council guy if i could cut the cable off it, he said no
but take whole thing away, get bit you want then return with the bits you don,t want, huh??? any way i did just that, got it home & it works a
dream now my garage "hoover" .

I think ours is a Hetty or something. It's the pink female version which means I can't touch it
(or I'll manage to annoy/upset it) but I believe it's very good.
