WHEEL AND TYRE WEIGHTS?
Right im thinking of changing my wheels for a set of lighter ones.
Im running 15" wheels and toyo R888s.
I want to keep the 15" size wheel to reuse the R888s. Which are the lightest wheels?
Basically what im asking is for you who have 15" wheels with R888s fitted to put one of them on a set of scales and weigh it for me.
I want to know the weights of the halfords type wheel to the pro race stuff to give me an idea of what im going to get for the money i have.
Many thanks for your time locosters

In 15" OZ Superleggera or Ultraleggera take a lot of beating if you're looking at cast wheels rather than split rims (more money) at
either just under or just over 5kg a corner.
R888's in 195/50-15's are just under 9kg I think so you're looking at around 14Kg.
(7 inch wide rim).
How heavy are your current wheels?

I can only give you half an answer sorry, i have a set of OZ Ultraleggera and they weigh 5.1kgs,but there are lighter wheels, i think the lightest
tyre is the Avon CR500 but don't know the weight
Must try harder

Do Avon do an ACB10 in 15"???
If so, then those are your rubber-rings of choice!

Chris - I'm sure I've picked up some cheap nasty 15" wheels in Halfords and nearly put my back out, I reckon they must've been
over 10Kg's.
PhilW - R888's are about a Kg heaver in 15" than T1-S but you'll still be quicker on the R888's as you've got shed loads
more grip
scootz - I had some 15" ACB10's but as I use my car on the road as well as track I think I'm going to stick with radials so
R888's or A048's (plus to get the best out of crossplies you need to change your suspension setup compared to radials).
CR500's could be a good compromise but they are expensive.
Anyone comment on what they're like grip wise compared to medium compound A048's or R888's?

I found the CR500 alright... not sure they were worth the money though!
Have a search through Blatchat as plenty of the members on their have used them.

You must have been quite lucky as there are a lot of 15's that are 7 or 8 Kg's or more including a few that you wouldn't expect to
be that heavy as they are from well known makes, eg:
Momo Arrow 15x7 - 9.1Kg
OZ Superturismos 15x6.5 - 8.4Kg
Perhaps you've got very light tyres with them or inaccurate scales

Just put mine on the scales and it weighed 17kg with a r888 fitted. so if the r888 weighs 9kg that means my wheel is 8kg. Hmmm, is that reasonably
light then?
So im 2 kg heavier than hellfires wheel = 8 kg per 4 wheels
Will i notice if i lost the 8kg buying new wheels on the road?

philw - I didn't take it as a dig but I suppose I did come across a bit defensive
8Kg (or even 12kg if you went for some OZ SuperL's or UltraL's which are about the same cost as CXR's OR COULD ADD UP ) of
unsprung weight isn't a bad saving and there are more expensive ways to loose that if you wanted to save weight (calipers, hubs, uprights etc
would all cost more).
Whether you should bother is up to you though.
I'm sure some people would argue that you'd notice it but I guess the key point is "on the road" vs track use.
Going the other way most people wouldn't recommend wheels that were much heavier (e.g. 17 inch wheels) as you WOULD notice a difference then.
But a chunk of that would also be the lower profile tyres as well as the extra weight.
But hey people still fit those

I contacted one of the alloy wheel suppliers (potn.co.uk) and asked for a reasonably cheap 15*6.5 as light as possible (and black) and they said the
best bet were Dezent Motion at 6.8kg. For reference the standard 14" steel wheels on a honda civic coupe with 185 65 R14 and dunlop sp2000 road
tyres come in at 14.1kg/corner
