On the verge of suicide
you all know that trouble i've been having with megasquirt and you are all more than likely sick of me posting everyday saying i can't get
it to work, well today i lost it BIG TIME i spent another day in the cold trying to get it working and it just got the better of me, i was
shouting, kicking stuff and just felt so pissed off!
i am seriously on the verge of ripping the whole lot out, sticking it up for sale and going back to carbs! or even worse selling the whole car!
i just getting so f**king depressed, everytime i go into the garage im in the frame of mind, oh im not going to get it to work so why bother..
sorry rant over,
p,s sorry for language

Still not got it going?
I had another thought the other night (and forgot to post earlier)...
Have you got the trigger wheel timing correct? If you've got the missing tooth 90 deg before the VR sensor instead of after at TDC, your timing
will be 180 deg out...

If I was a bit closer I would pop over and give you a hand. It doesnt sound a million miles away from where it needs to be.
Is there no-one close to coventry who can pop over and give you a hand?
Didnt you say it was running before xmas? And now it wont? That sounds like it should only be down to it being bloody cold now which could mean it
could only be down to a couple of settings on the MS.
Have you checked the other stuff other than the ms? Not got a fuel blockage, pump failure, dodgy connection to something somewhere?

I feel your pain
Having similar problems with bike carbs and Megajolt so i have systematicaly isolated one bit at a time.
Sunday i finished the new loom, Edis, Megajolt and shielded cables, mounted it all on a board wired in direct power from the battery via switches and
appropriate fuseing and just as i was getting ready to load the maps (2 map option) the computer decided that only COM port 13 or above would be
available.

Since you are in Coventry this man may stop you from phoning the Samaritans.
He is knowledgeable on Megasquirt and helped me with my MS problems. His rates were reasonable.

Sounds like ignition to me - you could try disconnecting the injectors and a quick squirt of easy start down the tbs to rule out the fuel side of
things. Do you get rpms displayed properly on the laptop when cranking?

ben: yep cranking rpm is displayed in megatune, cranks about 250 rpm
the way im thinking is that during cranking i am loosing power to something and that is what is stopping it from firing, may sound silly but its all i
can think of at the moment, im just going over the wiring diagrams on the extraefi website at the moment.

I've never done MS but would like to at some point, I can't make Saturday but if you need someone to point out the obvious / ask the silly
questions that make you go "oh god of course" later in the week (weds?) I'm more than willing to come round and take a fresh look at
it.
(but go with other offers first - esp if peeps have done it before).
Have you tried using a separate battery to power the MS to rule out the battery / starter drawing too much power? Seems a simple test.

When I first got my ms running I found that I needed to disconnect the coil +12v from everything else and connect it directly to the battery cable. It
turned out to be a weak connection at the key switch. It would run but popped a lot and wouldn't take any load before blowing the sparks out. Do
you have a fat blue spark?

yep have plenty of sparks! im thinking of rewiring tomorrow so that there is an independent 12v to the MS.

Definitely worth a try. But if you have a sensible rpm reading while cranking it shows the ms is not going mad and is seeing what it should. Have you
run a datalog while cranking? Also have you checked the timing with a strobe?

If you have a good spark then as already suggested try a squirt of Easistart or brake cleaner down the inlet . If the engine fires up and runs for a
second or two then the problem is fuel related. Not enough to start from cold perhaps? . If the engine does not fire then the ignition timing may be
out or even firing on the wrong stroke in that case try swapping leads no 1&4 over with leads 2&3. Might be worth checking the valve timing
just in case?

Im off work for a few days and can call over for a look again if you like.As suggested try some easy start or brake cleaner down the inlets, if it
doesnt fire then it would suggest the sparks are at the wrong time or to weak.Have you tried fresh plugs or heating the existing ones to red heat
with a blowlamp as they may be to wet to spark under compression.
Paul.

My advice - and I know how you feel - walk away and go to work. Suddenly the car looks like a lot of fun. It's amazing really.

If you open device manager in Windows you should be able to rigth click and set the com port. Disable things like bluetooth and Internal Modem cards
these will take "com" ports.
