Which online bookmaker would you recommend?

Hi,
I'm completely new to online gambling and have no intention of making a habit of it but I would like to place a little bet on Fernando Alonso to win the Australian GP and the F1 drivers' championship. I think the current odds of 11/2 are pretty good as he looks to be in good shape compared to the usual favourites.

Anyway, I don't know anything about bookies so I just wondered if there are any in particular to avoid due to email spamming or slow payouts, complicated rules etc etc. So far I've looked at Sky Bet and William Hill but both require creation of an account. William Hill do allow a quick setup using paypal so I'm tempted to use them but would appreciate any tips/advice first.

As I said before, I don't intend to use this facility for anything else - this is just a way of (hopefully) making my point to a colleague at work that Alonso is the best! (IMHO of course...)

Thanks,
Craig.

Will Hill give fast payout and are easy to use.

Betfair can also give better odds and are againg good to use. Quick and easy with paypal too.
Plus another forum Im on are saying this link: http://tinyurl.com/acapw9 will get you a £10 bet free when you place your first £10+bet. (Cant confirm as i already had an account but others are saying it works)

Thanks for that, I'll give WH a try then I think.

We used to run a little £10 each pot at work for F1 with the winnings getting spread among the top three points scorers in the company but nobody seems to want to have the hassle of organising it any more, myself included. Easier to just place a bet online and then brag (or not) about it to colleagues later...

Cheers,
Craig.

Too right. Many years ago, during my apprenticeship, I lost a weeks wages, during a misspent afternoon at a bookies.

Lesson well and truly learnt. Horses are beautiful, but b****y unpredictable.

Yeah I know - I'm not a regular gambler as I said and have no intention of betting on anything else. I'm just making a point to a colleague.

I also think that 7.5 (decimal) odds for Alonso winning the australian grand prix are very attractive since he appears to be in much better shape than the others at this point. The fact that he won more points than anyone else at the end of last year and the fact he is regarded as one of the best at setting up a car and the fact we have so many changes to the tech specs this year are all in his favour.

Doesn't mean he will win but it's got to be worth a flutter at 7.5 odds. I put down £10 for this and £15 for him to win the championship at 11/2.

Cheers,
Craig.

yep gambling is a mugs game, most people just bet a certain way, eg betting on the favourite or on the name etc. This includes people who bet stupid amounts of money. Some times they would take us to the cleaners, others we would bankrupt them. Ultimately the bookies win. That said there was a guy who came in every few weeks and placed one really high bet ~£600 stake. He only ever lost once in the year i was there. Used to bet on the same horse if i could. He obviously knew more than he let on.

It is fun tho, used enjoy having a few bets on the go,very small stakes I never win!
