I'd love to think of carpet over the inspection pit..... but then in this crazy world - you haven't made your garage safe for them to invade, your liability...

Cameras are essential, be it to deter thieves or (in my case) deter criminal damage from neighbour scum.

I know a farmer who got so p@@@@@d off with thieves pocking about in his repair shed that he made a device that he loads with shot gun cartridges with the pellets removed and filled with salt.

If anyone goes in the door they spend the next few weeks hopping about !!!

A lovely idea... and one I'd support fully except for one problem...

... accidentally getting someone else.

A very good friend of mine (a plumber) was so fed up with his garage getting broken into (and the Police doing, or being unable to do, anything) he rigged up a large piece of very filthy, cast iron soil pipe, with sharp, fractured end, on a trapeze.

Mechanism was rigged so when garage door was opened pipe swung down to about abdomen height.

Sadly a local bobby came to check all was ok with the garage...

you can imagine the rest!

Cheers,
James
