Opinions on this phone deal?
Hi all,
After wanting a new phone for ages and a better contract, I realised that I needed a PAC code to change networks, with the same number.
I rang Vodafone to request the PAC code, and spoke to someone who asked why I wanted to leave. I told him I wanted a Blackberry 8900 Javelin, and that
there was a cashback Phones4U deal at £25 p/m 600mins, unlimited texts etc:
"Well we can offer:
-Free phone,
-600mins
-Unlimited texts
-'Unlimited' internet
-Blackberry email
for £25"
I was really surprised how easily the guy came up with the deal, and I said I would think about it, whilst waiting to recieve the PAC code.
Good deal or should I press for a better one?
James

Stick with it? Cash back deals are the biggest arse around. Usually involving sending off coupons and stuff. If you do it slightly wrong, miss a
deadline you get nothing back!

So, they are offering you the same as Phones 4U but with no cashback?
I would ask for more, or a lower price, in order to "compensate" for no cashback. Having said that, in addition to the process for getting
cashback being very strict, you can alos have the problem that the company providing teh cashback goes bust - that happened to me with a phone I got
for my daughter.

Apparently this deal is usually £40 a month, but £15 will be deducted from the bill each month, no coupons or anything. Thing is, I want to push for a
better deal, but I dont want to push too hard, and end up getting nowhere.
Do you think I could get it down to £20 or more minutes?

sales people have to think margin , if you ask for more money off then that will knacker the margin and might make the deal a no go- if you ask for
more free minutes then all they are reducing is the margin percentage slightly as the true cost of minutes is probably tiny to them.
So on that basis I'd ask for more minutes, if he dropped that quick then he might be able to squeeze a bit more.
I find the best way is to say you rung back phones4u and they increased the free minutes to 800 or 1000 or whatever, and ask if they can match it.
generally if they think they are competing for the business they will drop, if they think they are being stiffed then they will drop out the deal.
thats my 100 free texts worth...

With me 2 alarm bells would be ringing A: Cashback, been there done that, been burnt. B: Phones4u a John Caudwell company, though I think he might
have sold it out.
I'd push Vodaphone for a better deal.
Cheers,
Bob

This is EXACTLY why I'm leaving Vodafone, they gave me a cash back deal - basically credited my bill with £20 a month - what they didn't
tell me was it was only for 9 months of a 12 month contract, then it went up from £15 to £35!!
I had a huge row with them and am now taking all my phones (4 on contract) away from them to Orange all via Phones4U.
I never do any of the cash back, discounted, limited time etc etc deals. I like to know what I pay every month and not have to worry about it doubling
in price in a few months time.
I have to say I've found Phines4U to be very good, have my own account manager there with a direct dial number so I can always speak to the same
person. They cut me off accidentally recently whilst transferring my call internally, and phoned me back immediately - first company I've ever
had do that.
If you're not living life on the edge you're taking up too much room.

I had a cash back deal with phones4u - no probs getting the cash. They still do cash back but much simpler now. Is it a cash back deal though?
