You should be able to put your Sim in either a Sim free / unlocked phone, or a locked one from the same network.

My sons phone stopped working it was a three phone, where we live it's ok where he goes to school 6 miles away no network they said we are
putting up a mast in 2010 it'll be ok then, i then pointed out he would be leaving school then they are just not bothered, two weeks later the
phone got washed in the washing machine and yes stopped working altogether, even though we paid monthly for insurance they wouldn't cough up a
new phone because the actual contract was in my wifes name and she had told them our son had left phone in his pocket and put trousers in washing
machine. We bought a pay as you go phone put his three sim card in it and it worked fine for two months then three locked the phone because we had not
bought a new phone from them, we have now got a 02 £15 a month sim card with good network signal so stuff three.
Is that any help

I used to be the case that some phones were locked to pay as you go only but I think they only lock to the network now
Scot's do it better in Kilts.

Our new phone was an unlocked pay as you go and the sim was a contract 3three, as soon as 3three worked out the phone was not theirs they locked the
phone so it could not be used, when we questioned this they just said it was their new policy, not a very good responce ithough in these hard times
when we all need as much work to stay in business.

I do it all the time as i break phones on a regualr basis. As long as its the same network or unlocked you will be fine.
