Cat C write-off

My wifes tin top was in an accident a few weeks ago see linky

It has now been declared a Cat C. We have a really good cash settlement and will keep the car. I could repair the car for under £100 probably but what are the legalities surrounding putting a Cat C back on the road? eg getting the work inspected and declaring it if sold? Do I have to get the V5 ammended to reflect the Cat C

Do I need to get MOT redone?? Will the insurance go up?

Any advice would be appreciated

I bought a cat C write off, stolen/recovered, broken ignition and door damaged. Fixed it for £25 and drove around in it for 7 years.

These days I believe all you need is a VIC inspection (at the SVA centre) and your on the road.

Sold it on for twice what I paid for it

A cat C has to be VIC checked before it can be used again cost around £30 to have done. Its just a quick inspection to make sure its still the same car and not a ringer.

The logbook will have "Previously CAT C" put on it or something like that.

Do you still have the logbook? in most cases the insurance company takes the logbook to make sure the car is VIC checked because having the check done is the only way you can get a new logbook issued.
I have done a few (MR2/Impreza) and had no issues. just means the value is a little lower when selling.

im starting to think its not worth it for a 500 quid car. The only reason im considering repairing it was the amount of work i put into getting it through the MOT 2 weeks ago.

I could probably part it out and make most of that back on top of the settlement

Thanks chaps
