Heads ups for Almera drivers ---- front cross member rust

Apparently a lot of otherwise tidy looking Nissan Almras are failing on rusty front crossmembers

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Ahh -- that forum used to be 100% public read access but they had a moron problem very recently --- just create a login and acknowledge the email for access.

Useful forum if you ignore the small number of munchkins.

Lets just say the Almera rust prblem is major

Nasty

I thought my wifes 14 year old micra was bad but it looks a lot better than that, MOT tester has pointed it out over the last two years saying its bad but within the parameters of a pass.

Posts didnt say what year the almera was.

The K11 micra sufferes exactly the same.

My mrs has a 10 year old micra which is nigh on spotless mechanically, electrically, and bodywork wise.

she took it for an MOT, and it failed on the front cross member that had rotted through... i couldnt believe it until i got under the car to have a look.... everything was in excellent condition except for just the cross member. they wanted £200+ for repairing it at the MOT centre... stuff that. i bought a new member from a local motor factors for £20, and then cut out/replaced the original in a couple of hours

The front cross member is not a fail the garage should have passed the vehicle you could have reported it to vosa and claimed the full test fee back corrosion has to be within 30cm of a load bearing point ie suspension seats etc not cross members even though the gearbox is attatched to it

I presume that these cars are being brought to our attention as potential donors?

If it was in the "Donor Cars" forum then I might too, but this is in "Anything else".

Putting threads in apparently inappropriate sections is a long-standing Locostbuilders tradition!

Seems quite clear to me that BT was simply posting a helpful warning for anyone that owns one of these cars?

Just as it seems clear to me that my humour is sometimes too subtle?
