what primer?

what metal is a pinto sump made from and what primer do i need for prepping it for painting with hammerite?

steel and etch primer, they say you can aply direct to metal with hamerite but its always best to use an etch primer on bere metal thet is asuming you have removed all the old paint iff there is still old paint you should use a bar coat or isolater to prevent any reaction between the old paint and the new paint

I've never bothered on top of steel. For my diff I just wire-brushed it quite severely and then sprayed with Hammerite. Four years on and it's still sticking like a good'un......

I do used acid etch Upol #8 now for some work pieces but that's because I prefer the cosmetic finish of Plastikote satin black and that seems to need an etch coat more than Hammerite...

cheers tilly, yesterday i coated it in paint stripper and then stuck it in the electrolysis bin over night for good measure, i would say 99.9% of the paint has been removed and almost all of the rust, im off to B&Q in a minute to get a new wire brush and primer so i needed confirmation.
