Camcorders on a 7

Are Camcorders any good for use on a 7?
you can get some quite cheap that record direct onto an SD memory card, may be easier than buying a seperate camera and all the other gubbins to get it to work.

Generally those cheap ones are cack...

Spend a bit more, get a second hand camcorder off ebay that has an AV-input socket and get a bullet cam from honk kong....

Should be doable for £200 if you shop around... that way you can mount the camera somewhere nice and secure!

For vidoeing blats I just use my normal dv tape sony camcorder attached to the roll bar with a clamp on mount. Works fine..... For racing when it might experience higher G forces I'd use a bullet cam though....

That's not bad at all - probably helps it's a nice bright day, but even so.

How did you mount it?

Ive got a ATKcam 2k, which was bought for me as a present for mountain biking.
- Its not awfull, but for £100 its awesome either. Espically as it seams to hit some sort of resonance with its refreash rate at just above tickover the causes the image to go all wavy. Can supply raw footage if you are interested.

Planning to try my digital (still) camera some time (£100 nikon s200 compact) and see how that fair. Foam of the microphone for wind.
- Would mount with a screw on flexable-leg mini tripod and gaffatape.

It's just a really cheap screw on camera mount [About £3] mounted on the roll bar using an aluminium strap.

The good thing about it is that in theory with a 2Gb sd card it will record for almost 2 hours. In practice the battery limits it to about an hour or so.

I tried both the DV camera and Gopro as well.
The DV has nice image, great sound with an external microphone put under the scuttle, but the camera will suffer. The lens will get dirty (and wet if it rains...) and it doesn't like vibrations.
The Gopro was designed for this, you can place it anywehere, even the side of the car with the suction cup and it will hold it there at around 130 MPH - tested
The image is about half a PC screen, good enough... and it's fisheye, so really suits the application better.

Stick a bit of foam or insulating tape over the audio / mike. It will reduce the awful wind noise.

Hmm.. I Should try that in me trousers

All our video are shot with a Panasonic DV Camera... held in place by a B.Hague Camera mount mounted on the centre bar on the Roll Bar... it's been very reliable and almost fault free with no ill effects to date.
