I think I'm in love..

I woke up today and literally I cannot stop thinking about the car.

I think it may have something to do with me getting all the bits to put the engine back together today, and hopefully getting the 2 remaining parts needed to get the engine actually in to the car within a week.. It feels like its one step closer to being on the road..

I've just spent the last 45 minutes reading all the unread posts on the dax owners forum.

Is there anything I can do to take the edge off? Answers on a postcard..

It's a common problem - I'm a partially reformed sufferer myself

Attacks are usually triggered by a milestone event, rolling chasis, engine fitted, first engine start, first movement under power, SVA pass, first plated run etc.

There's not much you can do about it really - talking to others (apart from fellow builders) doesn't help because they never really quite get it.

I've found sitting in the drivers seat with a cold beer on a Friday night and surveying your work can help by heightening the attack to the point where it boils over and you can start to ease off a bit - sort of shock therapy

On the other hand there are worse things in life - DIY, rainy days, having to drive the tin top on a sunny day...

get a gf, you won't be allowed to think about the car then. strangely they know what you're thinking, and if you're not thinking about her, then you get a big row.

anyway, in saying that, i had a dream my engine was running, now i want to get out there and have it running today

Been there... done that... fantasising about the noise the engine will make.... wondering how it will drive etc....

If it was a woman you would just go off and have a hand shandy and feel better for a bit.... but with a car... its not that simple is it?

This made me laugh out loud.

Does that mean going out driving in my pug later is equivalent to having a tommy tank - because it sure feels naughty

i don't like the way this conversation is going, clear your head of impure thoughts and simply think

mmmmmmm ORGANIC CHEMISTRY

Honestly mate, it gets worse, you will get you engine in, talk lots of photos, then you'll think, i could wire it up in a hour or two, and then more and more next thing you know its 2 am and your still in the garage! (of course this has never happened to me ......NOT!

Nooo I need something to take my mind off the exam! Considering the only women I have contact with are 50+ in my office, it'll have to be the car!

Is this your first car of this type? I'm guessing so.
Those who have been there before should know that it is only lust not love. Be careful of falling in love as it will just become very, very temperamental, try to hurt you (and often succeed), take all your money and ultimately b*gger off with someone else.
Once you have experienced the above (particularly with a competition car) you will become more wary and try to stay emotionally detached. Just treat it as a quick blat and nothing more serious!

One thing I've learnt from working here is that the "euro" dvds are a complete fantasy. Nurses are generally old, overweight and overworked rather than blonde, slim and wearing expensive lingerie!

I just had the brilliant idea of collecting the parts needed to fit the engine from york tonight (im getting off work early anyway) while sending Danny down to pick up the sump from Trev D in Northampton.. Then I could do EVERYTHING this bank holiday!!

Just found out yuk sent the parts by courier yesterday - so they wont get to me until tuesday probably .

If theres one common theme about women and cars its - "dont get your hopes up"

You must be working in the wrong hospital then, I used to be an HCA on a ward years ago and the place was full of totty, we used to have amazing nursey nights out, they would even all get changed with me in the staff room!! I was the only bloke on the ward so I was their plaything Ended up going out with the ward sister (manager) in the end, and she always wore suspenders to work

Ohhhh happy days ......

Back to the thread - I'm feeling exactly the same way about the Stylus at the moment .... I even keep looking at pictures of it on my PC

If you're not living life on the edge you're taking up too much room.

a friction plate and spigot bush to complete the amalgamation of my type 9 and xe. I've just come back from seeing Trev D (and his amazing car workshop ) with my altered sump and pickup pipe.

By the end of this weekend, the engine will have been over the engine bay with some engine mount templates made up
