axle stands and jacks?
am really enjoying owning kit cars and think i will have one for a very long time now.i am just learning the ropes but the problem i have is that i
have no decent equipment to work on the car. does anyone know a good place to buy a pair of axle stands and a decent jack. dont want to spend mega
money but want them to be safe and sturdy! if i could combine the 2 items from the same place to avoid extra postage it might be useful. thanks

Machine Mart do both - don't go for the cheapest stuff as it won't last. £40-50 for a jack and £20 a pair for stands (get 2 pairs) should
see you right.

They are perfect for 7's. My mates got one. Nice bit of kit!! I might invest as some point when i have 90 quid spare.
Iv got a little halfords 2 tonne one and it only just goes under the front of mine and its not as low as i want it!

Ive got 4 stands and a 2t jack from Halfords. Good kit, and reasonably priced. It might not (havent tried yet) go under the car but id drive the car
onto 4x2 blocks to get the ground clearance i need. Not a problem.
Kindest Regards,
Richard.

Hi Daniel, I presume you know about Machine Marts discount nights- come round with amazing regularity and you lose the Vat off their gear or 10 % off
branded products and the Halfrauds trade card which gets reasonabl e discounts off their stuff- tools and oily car parts.
We are near Carlisle but give us a shout if we can help with anything- have access to both of the above and a variety of gear if you need to borrow
anything for major works

Machine Mart/Clarkes tools are utter cr&p. I am in the building trade and every tool I have ever bought from there has let me down, thats why they
have some many used tool sales and a skip out the back. Avoid them at all costs if you use your tools on a regular basis, they will not last.

I've had no trouble with the Clarke jack and axle stands I have, I think I have a fair few Clarke percussion implements too, which all work
fine.
I'd be wary of their power tools for trade use, but for most people building a locost, £20 a few times is hardly gonna break the bank.

The welded stuff is generally Ok , we have some of their stuff as well as big brand names , in my experience the Dewalt stuff is just as liable to
pack up as the Clarke's stuff

Halfords do a creeper, two axle stands and a 2 tonne jack for £60 as a boxed set. I don't know what the saddle height of the jack is though - it
might not be low enough for a locost and you might have to get a racing jack.

Some of it is crap, some is fine. The Clarke MIG welders are probably the single most popular brand for DIY use, so they can't be that bad.
The professional tool boxes are pretty well made and most of the hand tools are fine. Power tools are probably the weakest area.

Worth keeping an eye on Lidl & Aldi for axle stands and jacks.

Halfords budget jacks arent great and have quite a high entry height. I got one of the 2.5 tonne low slung jacks with quick lift with 2x2tonne axle
stands for £39.99 when they were on offer and then got trade probably another £4-6 and all feel like quality items.
