Does anyone know what this is?
Apparently it was used on an early mini.

It's probably to undo the the top and bottom balljoints from the upright. They are shimmed so you can compensate for wear, which involves a lot
of screwing around

quite a big hex for that though...
hmm, i can't remember anything like that on my mini..
unless its for the tower bolts or whatever they were called, for the top bolts for the front subframe?

Not sure what size it is but is it not for the clutch adjustment bolts, ie slaken one adjust then relock, situated on the cover on the left hand side
on the engine

It's octagonal, looks like an immersion heater spanner to me.

The clutch throw adjuster is also a hex, and much smaller than that looks.
My second guess is a spanner for the octagonal spinners used on wire wheel MGs.

If it's 1 1/2" it's for the front balljoints. Can also be used for the flywheel nut although that is usually a 1 1/2"

Mini's were never fitted with octaganal nuts in any position .The flywheel bolt and the ball joint nuts are hexaganal.

Ahh the very early minis with the immersion heater in the hot water tank. Used to warm the interior up in the winter and provide warm water to the
washer jets to help remove ice / snow

I still have all my old spanners from when I had Minis and none of them look like an immersion heater spanner

It could fit the rear hub nut on something like an Austin Cambridge or Morris Oxford , ISTR the were octaganal?

If it's 1 1/2" then it will do the front ball joints. I opened out an adjustable spanner and welded it
