jig table
how do you go about making a jig table etc if you want to weld up your own chassis?

are you talking about the same sort of build table as in the Haynes Roadster book?
if so , this is what i used, an 8ft x 4ft 12mm mdf board ( approx £18 ) then added a frame underneath to stop it flexing so much, used 4in x 2in wood
for the frame & legs, height of table is 35inches which makes it a nice working height as the chassis soon grows upwards, make sure build table is
perfectly level, most garage floors are not level.
a tip for keeping steel in place .... i used the little plastic blocks from B&Q that i believe are used when making kitchen units, once bottom
rails/plan is drawn onto the board, place these blocks at certain points to keep it all in place for welding up.
hth.
cheers

I used 18mm MDF and still have it (hint hint) although it has lent against my garage wall for a number of years.
i then took a couple of old tables apart - the sort you get in offices - and used the steel from that to reinforce the base. Made sure it was level /
straight, then lifted it up onto two work mates (and clamped them to the build steel). Meant i did the whole chassis at waste level with the welder
plonked in the engine bay area.
Whole thing was strong enough for me to sit in whilst at that height and make brum noises!
I've got holes in my build board for G clamps and also used screw on blocks.

Just my 2p worth, but make sure if you use the plastic blocks (which work well) that you keep them well away from where you are going to weld as they
won't last too long (May seem obvious but you never know)
It looks like the Midget is winning at the moment......

I built 6 block pillars (3 each chassis side) and laid steel I beam across them, setting it level with a sprit level, U tube (fuel pipe) manometer and
string. This wasn't done to build a chassis, by the way, but to repair the badly bent one on the Westfield.

I was just looking at building one myself, was gonna fabricate it out of 80x40 mm tube, but the cost of this is more than the steel for the
chassis!
Not really sure what to do now tbh!
If disfunction is a function, then I must be some kind of genius.

Use an 8 x 4 sheet of chipboard, fixed over a cheap fire door. Straight as a die.

just suggesting it may have a better home than propping up the side of my garage wall with tins of paint etc keeping it company.
I'll have a look what condition its in when i pop in later on.

its 1" MDF not 3/4.
Its 8x4 minus about 3" on the 8' side to fit in my garage. Looks ok, there is a water mark on a lower corner but its not seemed to affect
the wood at all + if you did use it as a build table this bit would be the narrow bit of the chassis anyway.
If you want it - its yours.
Two words of warning ........
1) its heavy
2) you're collecting it!

if you bring a circular saw yeah ....
Perhaps the ultimate chavtastic roof spoiler?????
just make sure you have the front lower than the rear or you'll get some interesting handling going down the A444.
(B&Q delivered it for about 10 quid years ago - only issue was they'd only deliver on a set day. Try a proper timber merchant)
