Phishing?

I nearly replied to this email. Because it wasn't from a bank or building society it didn't ring any alarm bells.

Dear Customer,

This e-mail has been sent to you by Virgin Media to inform you that we were unable to process your most recent payment of bill. This might be due to either of the following reasons:

1. A recent change in your personal information. (eg: billing address, phone)
2. Submitting incorrect information during bill payment process.

Due to this, to ensure that your service is not interrupted, we request you to confirm and update your billing information today by clicking here.

If you have already confirmed your billing information then please disregard this message as we are processing the changes you have made.

Regards,
Virgin Media
Billing Department

Thanks for your co-operation.

deffo scam indeed!

I got sent a text last month from 61610, some junk in it, but i got charged £1.50 to recieve it. Fuming, because i never subscribed to anything. Googling about it, you find there are loads of scams like this, with named people setting up one company after another and seemingly ofcom in their pocket because they all get a cut. £100m from one scam, and everyone had to INDIVIDUALLY write in for a refund. But only a 10k fine...

In legitimate emails you will never be asked to send information in an email and never given a link to a page to enter information, you might be given directions to the page to change information ut never a direct link. If it gives a link or asks for your information, bin it.

I can't think of any existing business contacts who refer to me as "Dear Customer". Not a perfect rule, but that would be enough for an "80% prime Spam" approval from me...

Francis.
