Tennis
As i'm out of work, i'm in the midst of studying for more professional qualifications and watching some of the tennis.
Why oh why do the women need to make noises that are much more akin to bedroom activities........................
It is really pathetic. Some lanky foreigner is on right now and i had to turn the sound off!
They should be docked points!
Am i alone in this theory?
Time for a change!

According to Martina, a pro player can hear a particular shot before they see it as it comes off the racket. Therefore they are trying to disguise the
shot and hence cheating?!
Was on Talk Sport t'other day.

that makes no sense -the speed of sound is many magnitude slower than the speed of light.

I dont think they are going that deep into physics. It takes a second to process where you think the ball is going. So If someone makes a noise out of
time with hitting the ball it can be slightly confusing.

But the speed of the ball is many magnitudes slower than the speed of sound, so you will (if this theory is to be believed) hear the particular thwack
before the ball plays out its particular path through the air.
Also, the bedroom noise banter cracked me up

Interesting, but not cheating unless there is a rule about not attempting to disguise your shot.

i think its more to do with how people process sound and sight, but still not convinced either way
if its true why don't the men do it?

The human visual system is very good at tracking fast moving objects when they are moving across the field of vision, but very bad when the object is
moving close to directly at you and the range has to be estimated by the speed the object is changing size.
So I can quite believe that the sound will provide more information to you about the strength of the shot than any visual cue's you're
getting.
To put it simply the sound will arrive at your senses a couple of milliseconds later than the sight of the ball being hit, but contains a lot more
useful information about how fast it's coming at you.

i would suggest that a shot with spin will sound much different, and you have no chance of seeing if a ball is spinning. Without hearing the swoosh
you would have to see the angle of their racket as they swung, which is moving fast!

Well, the female players do seem to look a lot better than they used to. I think that's much more important.
I watch with the sound off so they don't distract me.
