Collected my new audi tonight... 2 hours later it's broken (rant and questions)
well I'm absolutely F***ING livid.
Just splashed out £15 grand on a 2007 s-line a3 (2.0 tdi) which I collected from Volkswagen York (jct600) at 6:30pm. Stopped at wrigglypigs house,
showed him the car for 15 minutes, went home, waited for the missus who was messing around so said I'd go fill it up with diesel and then come
back in 15 mins.
Filled up with excellium diesel and went for a razz to some local twisty roads towards rufforth from York. At about 60mph in 5th gear, I pressed for a
tiny bit of acceleration but the engine just bogged down and the rev's started to drop very slowly... Very Odd I thought... carried on till the
next available side road and pulled in to do a u-turn and head home. Engine had stalled and dash lights were all on.
Tried to start the engine twice - it turned over but wouldn't catch. Pushed it out of the road and tried once more but gave up, called
volkswagen assistance and wandered down the road to the local yokel pub where all the local yokels took the p!ss out of me for the better part of 2
hours. On the bright side it was £1.70 a pint, on the bad side I only had £3 on me
Recovery guy seems to think it could be the injector pump which has gone as turning the ignition on and off was priming the system i.e. diesel
spraying out of the return pipe but not enough to get the engine to fire. Recovered the car back to my house and I'm gonna ring volkswagen
tomorrow.
This is the first reasonably expensive/luxury car I've ever had, all the others have been bangers and sub-£7k cars which have all been flawless.
This one was great to drive for the first 2 hours and now it's just an expensive ornament sat on my driveway...
Can anyone offer any advice on this at all please? What it could be, what could have caused it? (yes, I've already checked 5 times I definitely
filled with diesel and not petrol, checked the receipt three times and even went back to the petrol station just to have a quick look at the pump,
definitely excellium diesel)...
NOT a pretty sight... his arse is awful as well

One years manufacturers warranty left and a JCT600 give a 30 day guarantee against this kind of thing happening so technically they should sort it.
Managed to laugh the yokels off for 2 hours but as soon as I've got in and had a bit of quiet time to think about it, I'm absolutely
gutted. I can just about afford it and I've been looking forward to a new car for bloody ages (mondeo was starting to go mega wrong = £1000 to
keep it or part ex while it's still worth something)... then this has happened.
Just hoping I won't have to push to hard to get a courtesy car/get VW:York to collect it from my house, as I'm meant to be in reading on
monday...

step 1: take it back, get your 15k back
step 2: buy a banger, it'll be flawless, cost you a grand,
step 3: build your own sports car for £250
step 4: pocket £13,750!
EASY MONEY!
P.S, sorry to hear about your mis-fortune mate!

It goes back and they fix it for free, they can't possibly blame you for breaking it after a few hours. Throw the "Sale of goods fit for
the purpose" act at them if need be. I'd have got the tow truck guy to take it right back to them.
Definately refuse to hand over a penny until it's fixed, properly. Cancel the direct debit if need be and demand your old car back if they
won't give you and kind of courtesy car.
Do not take no for an answer!

cheers for the tips ninehigh
was considering getting the car recovered to VW York but he'd have to have left me there (no lift back home again) and no one would have been
there to 'accept' the car as the dealer was shut.
Sales opens at 8:30 so I'm gonna call first thing and explain to the GSM they need to have the car picked up & a courtesy car arranged, an
then see what the intial response is before pulling any "Sales of Goods Act" or "the DD is cancelled til you sort this" type
stuff on them.

Don't know about there, but Audi's are one of the most expensive car around to get repaired once your warranty expires. Porsche are
slightly more, I hear, but in my city, they are done at the same place.

I'll certainly agree they are expensive if you use the dealers but actually quite reasonable if you source the parts yourself. Most modern
diesels have very high precision pump/injector parts etc which do cost 100s if not 1000s to replace.

I've heard similar from a mate who owned audis and porsches.
When he wrecked his porsche, he saved a fair bit of money upgrading to better, non OEM parts, as with all things it's worth shopping around.

really does seem luck of the draw.
Good friend has run an A3 2.0tdi as a company car for the past couple of years covering over 90k without one single problem.
I buy a low milage 55 plate A4 1.8T estate privately expecting trouble free motoring and have had to spend approaching £500 in less than 2 months
sorting out faults (Airbag sensor, ABS sensor and 2 x coil packs at different times) - so much for bullet proof engineering!

Whilst you are undoubtedly gutted, give them a chance! You havnt even contacted them yet. Any garage worth its salt will help you out as much as they
can in this circumstance. As someone else commented, luck of the draw same as "Why does a bulb go at MOT time when you checked it the night
before"?

Sorry to hear about your problems - I'm sure the dealer will sort it for you without issue...
I've run Audis for years. I only use OEM parts purchased through either VAG parts or my local VW dealer who are much cheaper than the Audi
dealer for the same parts.
I've done all the work and servicing myself and they've cost very little to run. To be honest my Audis have been exceptionally reliable
compared to work colleagues Vauxhalls, Fords, Renaults etc which were constantly in the main dealers at dealer rates. Having said that I
wouldn't touch any diesel even if the car was free!!

Audis/vw's are great cars till they go wrong...... out of warranty usually.
They do suffer with fuel pumps and fuel injectors big time. You are very lucky the car is still under warranty as the injectors are stupid money. Had
one the other day car still in the three years but was high millage one so VW said no to the warranty. The first problem he had was with the fuel pump
gone down.Pump was on back order for 8 months. Had it down my yard for all the time. Fixed and three months later two of the injectors went down.
Customer asked to renew all 4. £1500.00 just for parts.
Saying that.....they are fantastic cars otherwise.
If I die, my biggest fear is that my wife sells all my toys for the price I told her I bought them for...

Gutted for you mate, get back to bangers. We bought a Kia Sportage last year as a stop gap motor for £1700 and it just gone through it's second
MOT with nothing wrong.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Sounds like good old fashioned bad luck to me.
I have had an Audi A4 1.9Tdi for the last 7 years. Now it has done 219k miles.
Main dealers are not worth bothering with as their prices are silly. They even quoted me £120/hour for diagnosing a fault (no thank-you)! Local
small guys can do all the stuff as the engineering is common across loads of different cars.
A few design faults on the A4 (1998 model in my case); ignition switches fail that can burn-out the starter unless you realise something is wrong,
suspension parts at the front have limited lifespans (maybe 70k) and there are lots of them, lower door trims suffer from electrolytic corrosion and
fall off (at 100k), immobiliser can be a bit over-enthusiastic (but responds to wiggling).
But to be honest the car is excellent. I will definitely buy another Audi.
A good site for information is vwaudiforum

I'm a VAG convert these days I have to say.
the Audi A4 which I have been running for some months now and has cost very little to run in terms of parts and repairs. There is a solitary clonk
from the front end, but that's an easy fix.
Just bought the Golf GTI that everyone said I shouldn't and I find that equally impressive.
Both have been banger money purchases and feel all the better for it.
