90 days notice? CLOSING!

Today it is 90 days since I was told I am redundant... also the plant consultancy period ends today.. seniors have been plotting behind closed doors for 2 days now.. an announcement is pending...

My leaving date is 31st July but question is, am I entitled to my money now? or can they deduct the next 11 working days off my total?

3pm, The decision is.. CLOSURE! NSK Steering Systems will close Q2 2010 - 130 jobs wasted..

Its going to rain for the rest of the month, there's no reason to be at home. Stay at work and earn the extra money.

as it appears you have access to the net at work then if I were you I'd be using that to find a new job while getting paid to do so

Aye, that's right, however with Nissan paying of 1200 peeps just recently, lots of engineers and purchasing included, they are hoovering up all the available jobs that are very few and far between here...

Unfortunately for me I do not have 'Nissan' on my CV

Was the 90 days your "consultancy period" or your "notice period"? If they're making more than 99 people redundant, they have to have a 90 day consultation. At the end of that, people are given their notice (If your consultation ended today, then I'm presuming your contractual notice period is 2 weeks?)

Redundancy payment is separate to any notice period etc....

The redundancy payment is tax free (or at least the first 30k or so is, anyhow) so should not be taken off your total.

It is, however, only paid when you do leave.

PS If your contractual notice period is more than 2 weeks, and the consultation period only ended today, then they should also be paying you for the remainder of your notice period ("gardening leave). This isn't a tax-free payment.

Depending on what the deciders have decided, you should be able to have paid time off to search for a new job. If you decide to leave of your own accord, before they release you, you may not be entitled to ANY redundo. Check!!
It's more usual for them to deduct the amount of days (taken before your leaving notice) from your final payout.

Good luck with the job hunt.

I did ask at the beginning if I found a new job could I leave early and the HR tosspot said I could go at any time with 4 weeks notice and no money...

I was just wondering if going past 90 days made the money secure...

Announcement this afternoon as to whether the plant is staying open or moving to Poland... the amount of Polish people here atm would suggest the latter

Have you not been advised to consult a lawyer over your redundancy terms? Pretty sure this is a legal requirement (and the company pay, not you)

Might be easier to find a friendly Doctor, cross his palm with silver, and get him to sign you off sick with stress?

Really sorry to hear of your job loss, just remember it is the job that is redundant and not you.

Nice little leaflet on what you are entitled to http://www.tuc.org.uk/extras/facingredundancy.pdf

I work as a global payroll consultant for my sins. If you are stuck with anything or want anything explained just let me know.

Cheers
Colin

I know a guy who lost his job at a university and was told he would be cut off from his severence pay if he found another job. I am very sure this is illegal in our country.

HOWEVER, no need to tell the old employer if you find something else. There are ways of being paid that don't involve sending tax to HM right away: ie. change the dates of work or bartering for goods.

Best of luck to you. It is no fun losing one's job. Things improve for the better though! Do not let them win.

2 of my friends have just been given notice of redundancy consultation periods, and if im honest im thinking the lad i employ needs to come to some arrangement with me as its killing me paying his wage and not having enough work.

Just as the economy looks like it might be recovering, the delayed effects of knocked confidence and unemployment will cripple it. Add a possible pandemic of swine flu and people too scared to go to work, and we could be up **** creek!

excuse my poor manners, i forgot to offer sympathies to those already unemployed or facing it.

nissan didnt lay off ANY engineers or purchashing staff - all redundancies were shop floor staff

they are also still taking on staff as temps right now - work is through the roof - hour and quarter to hour and half overtime everyday and full day saturday every week - thats already been planned for the next few months too.

next year sees the new qazana being introduced on line 2 and by the looks of its styling i reckon it will be a good seller - if thats the case volume will fill that line making no room for production of Note on that line - forcing it down line 1 where qashqai is being made - and were flat out!! solution - maybe back to 3 shifts next year - more jobs - mabe 1000+ late this year early next - my prediction..

for all we are working flat out and propping the car industry up the parent company still manages to lose trillions / second or summink daft.. boils my blood to think how hard we have to work - how much we sacrifice to do that then some numptie in japan or renault says sorry - we may be going bang - taking us with them.. i hope i can see my time out till retirement before that happens..

I'm in the same boat, just on 90 days cunsultation, which ends on the 7th Sept. The factory I work at is closing but we are still producing product till the end of Oct; they are been very vague about who is key workers and when they will let us leave. I've worked there for 20 years

Yea been there just short of 20 years now.. Since bluebird.. It was probably me who said your rack was no good.. ;-) inspecting cars can be fun but can be tedious when nothing is wrong..
Think your right tho steve.. The offer was for certain engineers.. Some werent eligible.. Complicated rules.. Big announcement monday.. Theyre building a stage up today.. Outside contractors putting spot lights.. Sound systems in etc..
