Daytime Running Lights
I see it is now manditory to have daytime running lights over there, been here for years.
Most manufaturers put a resistor on the High beam (main beam) so that light is not as bright, they come on with the ignition, or like my Jeep are
signalled by the speedometer ( when the vehicle moves about 2 meters the lights come on).
Some manufacturers like Suzuki on their 4x4 just have all the lights come on with the ignition.
The other method now in vogue is to have turn signal bulbs lite as running lights, take your pick.
IMHO in a 7 as many lights on as possible.

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

If you look at a "standard" UK sierra loom it has dip dim setting i.e. dip bulbs in series; bit complicated though, you could use this
idea.

I think its coming for the UK; most EU country have the headlights on all the time. Certainly my bike has no off switch for the lights; don't
think you need one now so long as they go off with the ignition. You'll still need the side lights to be switch able for parking at night. Good
idea really.

DRLs are not yet mandatory in Europe, but will be for type-approved vehicles in the near future (2011-2012).
Note that DRLs are not the same as either having dipped-beam on permanently or the old-fashioned dim-dip, they have different specifications.

Both my fiat and volvo had DRL's and were nothing more than the lights not switching off on the dash.

Then they weren't DRLs, they were position lamps or dipped beams that came on with the ignition.

the new audis have DRLs thats what the LEDs round the headlights are.
I have fitted some aftermarket ones to my kit car.
The dip dim in the wiring in the sierra loom was for the scandinavian country spec cars as it is mandatory there

I'm going to register my car in Quebec, and have my indicators wired as running lights (just a bit dimmer). You can buy kits for about $30 to
dim you headlights, but my headlights won't be part of that circuit. Here, at least, I don't think the headlights have to be on, only
"daytime running lights" that appears to be open to interpretation in Quebec.

It was the Swedish that first had daytime headlights on, ie Volvo & Saab, I think it was all that free sex and porn movies that the Swedes
pioneered in the sixty's that affected thier eyesight, what do you think. Barry

What's the point? If it's daytime you're just wasting energy, if it's night time then they'd be no help at all (and
you'd hope a driver would notice you havn't got your lights on)... In bad weather you're just a nonce if you don't put them
on. I'm sorry but this smacks of nanny stateism to me, unless I've missed a point?
If disfunction is a function, then I must be some kind of genius.
