Speed has never killed anyone. Suddenly becoming stationary... that's what
gets you.

306 td, do not rust, change the cam belt and they go on for ever.
I got one for my cousin two months ago, £100, needed rear brakes and rear suspension mounts for MOT.
Rear suspension mounts are quoted as being very expensive to replace, you can do this on the car.

LPG conversion ----- would give fuel costs equivalent to 70 mpg on your current vehicle.

For the money it would cost to convert my car i'd rather buy another and not ruin mine.

If you're more bothered about mpg than size there's a list:
Corsa (+td)
106 (+1.5d) had one pretty good on the motorway
Perodua Nippa (then again maybe not for the motorway)
Mini?
Fiesta (+td)
Clio (I'm sure they did a diesel)
There's tons of small cars...
