this isn't right is it?

just been looking through ebay, i want a new (2nd hand) car. been thinking of skylines for a while. probably a terrible idea but i love them.

anyway, saw one (not brilliant) example, it said this

quote:

things that jump out as upgrades are a huge single turbo apexi turbo conversion (looked on the net and seen one for 6000 dollars!, very rare) this helps reduce the turbo lag the original twin turbos create

i thought small turbos reduce lag? big for more boost (but takes longer to spin up)?

i'd have thought two small ones would be better

whats peoples thoughts on skylines? i know theres been a few people selling on here over the years, are they as much fun as i think?
any particular troubles? is the trouble worth it?
they seem to range loads in price. are the cheaper ones really not worth bothering with?

probably thinking more about R33 (or even r32, though i don't think they're as good looking. r34 is too expensive) gtr

I thought the same as you regarding the turbo situation... as for Skylines - not my cup of tea, but my wee bro is into Jap-Rockets and he loves them!

yeah, they're weird, not the prettiest, and the interiors are pretty dreary, but i think thats somehow the appeal.
wouldn't be til next year anyway, but just like to go looking now and then

has your bro got one? if he's got/had one then that sounds like a +1 to me.
if like me, he just likes them then we could both be wrong

small turbos spin up faster, that's why twin turbos are popular. Two smaller turbos provide the same boost as 1 big one but their lower inertia allows them to spool up faster.

There are equal sized twins (same size - e.g. one per bank of a V6) and sequential twins (different size, small one for quick spin up and then bigger unit takes over at higher revs).

But if you're seeking big horsepower rip them both out and fit a big single. But also get more lag and a smaller powerband higher up the rev range.

ah, so it was done for more bhp reasons, but his understanding wasn't right.

not wanting one with big bhp myself. standard is enough. not sure what insurance would be like for a modified import... not cheap i'm guessing.

the single turbo conversion was for huge boost at high power

but the smaller twin turbo setup works well (low lag) and is still capable of producing more than enough power for the road 600bhp+

be aware if u buy a dog its gonna cost a fortune to put right

very dear to insure.group 20. very very expensive for parts.eg brakes,
why not go for impreza? i have had 2 and although they aint great on juice they were very reasonable to run, very quick and in my experience 100% reliable and trouble free

never really been overly taken by imprezas for some reason. they sound nice, but not sure about the look of them.
nice idea though. might be worth a look into.
did a quote with elephant insurance. about £900 for me on a skyline, which is what norwich union wanted for me on my bmw 328 (i went with elephant for £400, 3 years ago) so not as bad as i'd expected. i thought about £1500.

i'm sure there better places too insure with. adrian flux etc perhaps
