Need a new telly
Our TV keeps switching itself off for no reason so before the VAT goes up and while the sales are on its probably time for a new one. The thing is I
know nothing about new tellies. What do I go for? LCD? Plasma? Something else?
Our current set is a 24" widescreen, which to be honest is big enough. Anything much bigger won't fit in the alcove so no council estate
90" plasma recomendations please

sainsbury's in milton keynes had 37" sony bravias on sale the other day, £750 down to £500. (nearly bought one myself!)
I love Pinto's, even if i did get mine from P&O!

I got my 32" Sony from Amazon... they've got loads of TVs to pick from, in all sorts of screen sizes. Modern colour sets are so easy to
set up these days - they work, or (rarely) they don't - just plug in, switch on and do the auto-tune bit.

The locost solution is a CRT TV from e-bay.
Loads of people "upgrade" to LCD/plasma, the quality of CRT was optimised over 60 years.
Late model top of the range Panasonic or Sony are about £30-40 and yield awesome picture quality (arguably superior to LCD).

Id reccomend richer sounds too, just been in today for one, they were cheapest i could find on the web, and you pay the same price in the shop. They
even pay your parking at our local one

Too true.
My sister still has our old Sony KV32-F1. I inherited it off my late Father 9 years ago and it's around 13 years old.
The picture quality is way in excess of any of the run of the mill non HD modern TVs.
We still have a KV35-F1 upstairs we've had since 1996 and picture quality remains stunning with that too.
Trinitron remain the standard IMO.

Nothing wrong with LG lcds. I've got a 42"one, was £600 but you can get them a fair bit cheaper now. It's not quite as sharp as my
mates Sony 42" but was £750 cheaper.
Zilspeed has a point about ultimate picture sharpness though as crt's are still sharper, but they're bloody heavy to carry.

CRT does produce a much better picture than LCD but it's almost impossible to buy a new one these days and they weigh a tonne.
We got a 26" Panasonic Viera TX-L26X10B LCD when our 22" CRT went pop. Very happy with the picture considering.
<IMO> Unless you have a huge room get a 32" or smaller one. If you want/need a cinema sized picture get a decent projector. Don't
go into a warehouse shop and pick the size that looks right - it will look huge when you get it home. </IMO>
