XBOX Kinect Gurus

For my sanity can someone tell me what the wifi extension is for
in the kinect pack.

My xbox is in one corner of the room and the TV in other.

I cant move the xbox as it is linked to amp via fibre
and there is no room under the TV to move the whole lot.

I need to know is the lead on the Kinect around 6 - 7m or
does it link via the wifi extension wirelessly back to the xbox
and therefore can be put anywhere in the room?

Been in Smiths, Currys etc no one knows.

And if not .. and the kinect just uses a USB connector
can I simply nip down to Maplin and get a straight through USB ext
cable and join it up.

Cheers
