Moving Car Before IVA
Evening All
I have a quick question for you all. It looks like I'm going to have to move my car before it goes for IVA and I don't really have access
to a trailer! What I plan to do is tow the car on either a rope or drawbar is this legal?

nope. covered many many time before. you can drive to the pre arranged IVA, but as your car is not IVA'd, and therefore not registered, and so
not taxed, and most likely doesn't have a chassis number yet, it must be on a trailer or recovery truck type transporter, or any other way all
the wheels are off the road

use some sort of A frame, most kits will be under 750kg so doesn't need working brakes, and as its not regestered then its a trailer that looks
like a car, thats how i would move it, as a trailer it doesn't need to be regestered or insured or anything, it only becomes a car once

But police in Hertfordshire are;
Oblivious to the most complicated traffic rules (Unless you get a very experienced traffic copper)
Are hard nosed and unforgiving and will push hard "For a result"
I wouldnt take the risk if going through main routes, or for a long distance.
GT Towing near Hatfield are pretty good on price if you can get a vehicle with a towbar. £50 for a day i think. I borrowed one for a weekend (friday
to monday) and it cost me £100.

I think it's been said on here that A frames are legal only in case of emergency, for recovery to a garage etc.

A frames are a no no if the vehicle being towed is above 750 kg, but 100% ok below, this is because above 750kg all wheels on the road need to be
braked and with an A frame they are not, but below 750kg a trailer can be unbraked so an A frame is ok, and as the vehicle in question has not been
regestered it is not a car, just looks like one
