Ebay purchase - what are the chances of....

See e-mail below sent to the seller of a fuel pump I purchased!

Dear tfrallyesport,

Hi, I recently purchased a fuel pump from you at a cost of £31 + £9 postage. It was advertised as a "Cosworth fuel pump". Whilst trying to obtain the correct fuel filter for it i took it into my local ford dealership only to be told that it is not a cosworth fuel pump but is infact from an xr4x4. Apparently what i thought was the filter next to it is in fact an accumilator for the old mechanical style fuel injection. This pump is now not suitable for my application as they told me it doesn't have the same fuel flow rating as the cosworth item. As the item was not as described I would like my money back or a correct pump supplied if you have one. Hopefully we can sort this problem out. Many thanks, Doug Cook.

To view the item, go to: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2480924747

So what do you reckon my chances are? Slim to none!

Sent this morning so still awaiting reply.

Cheers,

Doug. at my self for being had!

Can't remember exactly how you do it, but if you go to the paypal site there is a method by which you can contact them and tell them that you awnt a refund. They investigate and if they agree your card gets refunded.

The other thing of course is, have you already left feedback? The threat of negative feedback should help speed things up. You can also make a complaint via ebay as you have entered a legally binding contract via ebay with the seller based on his description which was wrong so they should help you. Again, details are on the site somewhere.

Unfortunatley I have already left feedback! and it was all positive as the rest of the transaction was good.

Maybe he is a stand up guy so I will give him a few days to respond and take it from there.

Hi-cost - don't suppose you have a spare cossy pump lying around?

Cheers,

Doug.

Did you use your credit card with Paypal?? If so, (and if you have no joy with him) then contact them straight away and they should organise the refund. They will require something in writing from an independent accesor well, so get the company to write something for you on letterhead.

Also good to remember for next time - never leave feedback until you are sure the item is right!!

at least there is a picture in the listing, so you can prove it isnt the correct item. as hicost says, ring him first, then speak to ebay/paypal/c.card people. should be ok... good luck anyway!
